Business Type: Must See in Nelson Region

Overview

Isolated and Beautiful. Sculptured cliffs, arched rocks and beautiful sand hills. The one of most beautiful, wild and rugged place on earth!

Address: Wharariki Road, Pakawau, Tasman, New Zealand Nelson Region

Description

Cancel any upcoming appointments, because there’s a treasure trove of nature to explore here – with dramatic cliffs and rock formations, and fascinating wildlife that call this place home.

After parking the car, there’s a 30 minute walk through farmland and forest until you hit the beach.

And then it’s game on for things to see and do.

Sweeping winds have created a dramatic landscape of imposing cliffs, towering arches, caves, rock bridges, sand dunes and islands.

And keep an eye out for seals in the rock pools – just keep your distance from them!

Note, the track can be closed during lambing season.

Locations

From Takaka, follow State Highway 60 north to Farewell Spit.
Access is at the end of Wharariki Road. From the carpark to the beach takes 20 minutes over farm paddocks and through a section of coastal forest.
