Beautiful falls, about 10-15 meters drop with rainbows in spray tumble over the edge of an ancient lava flow. Jumping from the top could be dangerous. Deep pool seems Ok to swim if you are not afraid of cold water.

Only a short 10-15 minutes walk through native beech forest.
  
Accessible on foot from Whakapapa Village or require a short drive to the start of the track, which begins 4 km below Tongariro National Park Visitor Centre on SH 48.

Locations

State Highway 48, Whakapapa, Turangi, Central North Island.
Whakapapa Village is situated within the boundaries of Tongariro National Park, on the lower north-western slopes of Mount Ruapehu. The village provides the area with amenities such as accommodation and other visitor services.
Tawhai Falls begin 4 km below Whakapapa Visitor Centre on SH 48.The falls, which tumble over the edge of an ancient lava flow, are reached after a short stroll through mountain toatoa and beech forest.
