Business Type: Longest place name

Here’s your chance to visit the hill with the longest place name in the world – okay, are you ready for it? At 85 letters long, this is the longest place name in the world.

Address: 510 Wimbledon Road, Mangaorapa, Hawkes Bay Napier & Hawke's Bay

Taumata whaka tangi hanga koauau o Tamatea turi pukakapi ki maunga horo nuku poka i whenua kitana tahu.

That translates as the place where Taumata, the man with the big knees, who slid, climbed and swallowed mountains, known as land-eater, played his flute to his loved one', but we just call it Taumata (no surprise there!).

It takes about 3-4 hours to complete the walk, which leads up through farmland and returns through native bush.

Call first on 06 855 5330, as a guide will meet you at the starting point to make sure you know where to head. (You can also pay for a guided walk).

510 Wimbledon Road, Route 52, Mangaorapa, Hastings, Hawkes Bay.
