With exclusive access to over 8,500 square kilometres of terrain, across 11 different mountain ranges and boosting an excess of 600 runs, heliski or snowboard the best untracked powder snow with their highly experienced guides, certified under the NZMGA training programme.


Southern Lakes Heliski offers a variety of packages for Heli Skiing in NZ, ranging from three, four, six and eight runs daily. It allows anyone from intermediate to expert to have a go. There is an option for private charters and now, all-inclusive weekly New Zealand Heli Skiing trips. Come visit us at our offices based in Queenstown or Wanaka.

Your heliski price is an all-inclusive product from door to door. We will pick you up from your accommodation in Queenstown or Wanaka and transport you and your gear to the departure point. The best terrain for the day is dictated by snowfall and weather conditions.

Transport to your helicopter will vary from an exciting boat/barge, van ride or choose the fly/fly option to get a longer scenic flight. Safety is our number one priority and the guides will issue you with an avalanche transceiver, teaching you all you need to know to ensure your safety in the mountains. Finally, accompanied by your guide and group you will set off for the thrill of your life!

After a few runs, lunch will be served, a buffet style of hot and cold cuisine right there in the mountains! A few more runs to tire you out and then we will happily get you back to your accommodation returning all your rental gear so you can relax and revel in your wonderful day.

All prices include: guides, lunch, landing permits, Department of Conservation fees, use of avalanche transceivers.

Southern Lakes Heliski has access to the amazing Clarke Glacier located in the Forbes mountain range, which also includes exclusive heli ski access to the Highest elevation terrain available in Queenstown or Wanaka at 2585 meters.

The scenery is breath taking, viewed from B2, and B3 helicopters, skillfully piloted, it's an exhilarating way to view our amazing backcountry mountain environment.


Guiding in New Zealands Heliski mountains is serious business. Our Heli Ski guiding programme is overseen by IFMGA qualified guides with years of experience in Heli skiing in the Southern Lakes region and abroad.  We are committed to improving our expertise, professionalism and our standards constantly. All our guides are experienced and passionate skiers and snowboarders who wish to share their love of the mountains with you, our guests.

Southern Lakes Heliski supports the NZMGA training programme. This is overseen by IFMGA qualified guides, the highest certification in the Heli ski industry, and is recognized internationally.

With a ratio of one guide per five guests, you won’t feel overcrowded, and your group will be organised according to ability, ensuring you feel comfortable yet challenged enough to get the most from your day. This guide to client ratio backs up our dedication to personalized service, attention to detail and flexibility to accommodate your dream Heli Ski, NZ experience.

We take your safety seriously.

Safety is first and foremost to our operation. There are inherent risks in skiing and riding in the backcountry so choosing the right operator makes all the difference . At Southern Lakes Heliski you can be assured you are in good hands . We are the only Queenstown based heli-skiing operation that is managed by internationally certified IFMGA* guides. Our specialist skiing and snowboarding guides have the skills and ability to provide you with an exciting and memorable day in the mountains. In addition to their communication and people skills, they are equipped with the experience and technical knowledge to enhance your safety in the back country environment.

(*The Carnet of the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA or UIAGM) is the highest professional and most recognised award attainable in the world of professional mountain and ski guiding.)

Avalanche safety

Our comprehensive Snow Safety programme is run by experienced practitioners with years of experience in Heliskiing , Ski areas and roading. Our operation is a member and active contributor to the New Zealand mountain Safety Councils "Infoex " - a networking programme where professional operators exchange information regarding Snow and Avalanche conditions. In the field all our guests are equipped with Avalanche transcievers and recieve a comprehensive safety briefing in their use before skiing and riding commences.


Whether you are a frequent flyer or first timer , flying through our terrain piloted by one or our expert pilots is exhilirating. They are specialists in mountain flying and work hard to enhance your experience and safety throughout the day. Working closely with your Guide they get you to some of the best skiing and riding in the region. Our guiding team have worked with our main pilots for excess of 10 years making for seamless communication and rapport between guide & pilot, enhancing your experience all the more. All our guests receive a comprehensive Helicopter Safety briefing in the field by one of our Guides before the days skiing and riding commences.


Southern Lakes Heliski utilize B2 & B3 Aerospatiale Helicopters for the majority of our operations. With a lifting capacity of 1.2 to 1.4 tonne these awesome machines in the hands of our extremely experienced pilots can maneuver a full load of skiers and equipment onto the most challenging of landing spots. The power of the B2/B3 makes for faster lifts to the top of the next ridge and another jaw dropping landing & awaiting pristine run. Making accessing that ultimate run all the more breathtaking. These machines have superb visibility from every seat to take in the majestic scenery.
