Business Type: Most Unknown Mountain

On the doorstep of beautiful sunny Nelson you will find Mt Richmond. At 1760m high, it is the centre of Mt Richmond Forest Park....

Address: State Highway 6, Kaituna, Marlborough, New Zealand Picton, Marlborough

Located between Nelson and Blenheim at the top of the South Island, this is possibly a less known and yet to be discovered – part of paradise!
A myriad of walking and tramping tracks that total more than 436km and superb huts make this an ideal tramper’s park.
With easy access roads, Mt Richmond is also popular for fishing, climbing and mountain biking.

The park was gazetted on 4 March 1977. It has an area of 166,000 ha and is the second largest forest park in New Zealand. It is named after Mount Richmond (1760 metres), one of the highest peaks in the park.

The park forms a backdrop to Nelson City, the Waimea Plains, and surrounding country. In Marlborough, the mountains are a dominant feature of the Wairau and Pelorus Valleys.

Nelson New Zealand
The park spans both the Nelson/Tasman and Marlborough regions - it is located between Nelson and Blenheim in the South Island.
The northbank of Wairau River provides access to Mt Richmond Forest Park in the South Marlborough area.
To get to this part of the forest park, turn off State Highway 6, just north of the Wairau River Bridge, 16 km from Blenheim.
