Business Type: 1240m

Overview

The Homer Tunnel is an integral part of the southern South Island linking Milford Sound to Te Anau and Queenstown....

Address: Te Anau Milford Queenstown & Wanaka

Description

Opened in 1954 – 1240m in length its walls are unlined granite.

Although large enough for a bus and a smaller vehicle to pass – meetings involving two coaches or campervans are difficult.

These are eased somewhat with the flow of traffic generally towards Milford in the mornings and back to Te Anau in the afternoons.

The tunnel is well lit and traffic lights operate during the peak of the summer season.
