Business Type: Landmark

Overview

Lower Huia Dam was opened in 1929 and forms part of the water supply for Auckland.

Address: Huia Road, Huia, Waitakere, Auckland Auckland North & West

Description

From the dam you have the choice of several great tracks, including the Omanawanui Track – rated as one of the Waitakere Ranges’ best walks.

From the carpark, a 30 minute climb leads to breathtaking views of Manukau Harbour and the fierce Tasman Sea. If it has been wet, bring good walking shoes as the tracks can be muddy. To see the waterfall, walk over the swing bridge across Huia Stream.

Security
Theft from vehicles is not common but unfortunately can happen. You should take the same reasonable precautions you take when parking at other locations and remember to lock your vehicle and take your valuables with you.
