Address: Landing Rd, Kerikeri, Bay of Islands, Northland Northland

Description

While only 5 metres high, the Wharepoke Falls are amazingly wide!

As you stroll along the grassy riverbank, you’ll pass through native bush, past the hydro-electric powerhouse built in the 1930s, and on to the Wharepoke Falls and eventually the larger Rainbow Falls. The track starts at Kerikeri Basin Recreation Reserve (off Landing Rd) or you can walk it from Rainbow Falls Road.

The falls are located on the Kerikeri River at the half way point between Cape Reinga and Auckland.
There is a car park at the end of Landing Road with toilets, a picnic area and a view to the River.

You can follow the Kerikeri Walkway for 40 minute return trip to the falls base.

Locations

The track begins in the Kerikeri Basin Recreation Reserve (off Landing Rd, accessed via the Heritage Bypass and Waipapa Rd) and from the Rainbow Falls, Rainbow Falls Road.
