Description

Its grandeur lures many tourists each year and is a favourite challenge for mountaineers and climbers.

The village of Mt Cook and its visitors are dwarfed by the immensity of the landscape surrounding them.

As well as climbing many other activities surround this great mountain – 4wd safaris, horse treks, fishing, scenic flights with snow landings, numerous walks and tramps.

Aoraki/Mt Cook's height was reduced by 10 m on 14 Dec 1991, when rock slipped from its summit.

This park is located in the central part of the South Island, deep in the heart of the Southern Alps. Aoraki/Mount Cook village lies within the park with Twizel the nearest town outside.
