Business Type: Must See Rotorua

Hamurana Springs is not just the deepest natural fresh water spring on the North Island but also a truly magic place, one of the best places to visit while you are in New Zealand!

Address: Hamurana Road, Rotorua, New Zealand Rotorua

Easy walking track, takes about 10 minutes to get to the spring. But no rush - so much to see and admire!

The track runs alongside the stream and through a grove of Redwood trees to the North Island’s deepest natural spring, and there is native birdlife to enjoy along the way.

The walk takes about 40mins return and there’s a lookout just above the springs where you can look down on the deep, clear water.

-The Height of the spring above sea level is 280m (920 feet)
-The depth of the spring is about 15m (50 feet)
-The temperature is constsnt 10C (51F)
-Around 4,500,000 litres (or 1,000,000 gallons) of water flow out of the spring each hour - that's enough to fill two Olympic sized swimming pools!
