Gannet Rock, Muriwai Beach – Gannets are graceful flyers and this thriving colony (nesting summer only), provides an amazing opportunity to get right up close.

Bring your camera as the views over Muriwai Beach are spectacular.

The gannets nest
between October and February and if you want to see the young chicks, then come during November.

There are fantastic views up the coast and you’ll get some great shots of the chicks and their parents - though be prepared for the smell!

From the carpark, walk along the main path to the beach, go left at the cliffs and follow the stairs up to Gannet Rock.
